Make this healthier milkshake recipe with your toddler to celebrate.

Summer is in full swing – and what better way to cool off than participating in National Vanilla Milkshake Day with your toddler but adding in some extra nutrients like fruit. This is also a great way to get your little one involved in the kitchen Giving your toddler the opportunity to help prepare food allows them to practice new skills. Let them help you with this milkshake recipe by giving them simple tasks to do: wash the strawberries, put the ingredients in the blender and scoop up the yogurt. By giving your toddler some responsibilities, it gives them room to grow and gain confidence in their new found skills. Plus, it’s a simple summer activity to do together and you’ll get a sweet healthy treat at the end of it!

Recipe for a healthier strawberry milkshake
makes 2 milkshakes

Ingredients
1 cup yogurt of choice
1/2 cup strawberries
1/4 cup milk of choice
1 tbsp of honey
1 cup of ice
Whip cream

optional add-ins: for an extra boost of nutrition add 1/2 cup of spinach, 1 tbsp of chia seeds, 1 tbsp of flax seed, or 1 tbsp nut butter of choice.

Instructions for you and your toddler.

  1. Wash the strawberries and add to the blender. – have your toddler help with this step. Let them put the strawberries in the measuring cup. Use this as an opportunity to practice counting!
  2. Measure the yogurt, milk, honey and add to the blender. – Let your toddler pour the measured ingredients into the blender. Use this as an opportunity to practice fine motor skills!
  3. Add ice to the blender. Blend on high until all ingredients are mixed. Add more milk if the consistency is too thick.

Top with whip cream and enjoy!
